## 1. Read the cloned source — no upstream fetch

## 3. Make a modified copy (the "copies" tier)
Copy the item JSON you want to change, edit it, and place it under:

/copies/roiui/items/<component>.json
```
A copy takes precedence over its clone everywhere on sh4dcn; the clone stays
pristine. Record it in /copies/manifest.json (scripts/build-copies.mjs picks up
files on disk automatically).
